Jr. Scientists Dive Team is a unique opportunity for 8-18 year olds interested in marine biology and the ocean. Our goal is to engage kids interested in the ocean through science education, scuba training and hands-on experiences. This program is open to divers, non-divers, and those that want to become divers.
What do we do?
By training our Dive Team Members in marine science, scuba and scientific diving, we involve students in marine science research projects and provide opportunities for them to contribute to the understanding and conservation of coral reef ecosystems.
Each month, we offer scuba clinics, scientific diving classes, and marine science workshops. Divers will develop their diving and science skills leading to research field trips to reefs in Florida. We will also plan local community projects including environmental clean-up events, ocean engineering challenges and other projects our Dive Team Members are interested in leading.
Any student ages 8-18 who is interested in the ocean can become a Jr Scientists Dive Team Member. Both divers and non-divers are welcome to join.
Dive Clinics are open to CertifiedDivers or those that have completed the Junior Open Water or Open Water pool and course work, but not completed the certification dives yet, and divers that have completed the PADI Master Seal Team course.
There are opportunities for non-divers to get certified in one of our custom PADI Open Water courses for those that are interested. Every dive team also needs non-divers to help with surface support and research project planning, so even if you are not a diver, but love the ocean, we would love for you to join us.
When do we meet?
We have workshops, event, or scuba clinics every month. Dates and times will vary depending on the pool and instructor schedule. We have semi-annual meetings with all members to discuss upcoming goals, projects and trips.
Where do we meet?
Most of our meetings and workshops take place at Discover Science Center (2500 Old Alabama Rd, Suite 5, Roswell 30076). All pool courses will take place at SeaVentures Aquatic Center (2880 Holcomb Bridge Rd, Alpharetta 30022). Make sure to check the location for each event.
How do I sign up my child?
Fill out the member registration form stating their interest in marine science and submit the $30 annual member fee.
