Science of the Body Ages: 6-10 Tuesdays 11am-12pm January 23-May 15 (no class Feb 20 or Apr 3) Students study systems of the body and how our bodies work through microscopic analysis, modeling of organ systems, and observation of real (not human!) organs (sheep brain, pig kidney etc). We also include lessons on basic first aid, common ailments (bacterial and viral infections) and how to stay healthy.
Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology Ages: 11+ Tuesdays 12:30-1:30pm January 23-May 15 (no class Feb 20 or Apr 3) Students learn the anatomy and physiology (body parts and their function) of different vertebrate organisms, including basic anatomical terms, organ and organ system function, and safety and dissection procedures as they dissect (if they wish) mammalian organs (sheep brain, pig kidney) and preserved frogs. Students will be assigned a research project involving comparing a physiological process (respiration, digestion, circulation, etc) across various vertebrates, and present their research to the class. Course fees include all lab costs.
